How is Dorian different from natural minor?
One note. Dorian has a raised 6th compared to natural minor. Play A minor — that's Aeolian. Raise the F to F# — that's A Dorian. That single note change gives the scale a brighter, more hopeful quality while keeping the minor third. It's why Dorian sounds great over minor jazz and soul progressions.
